EBooks or Recorded Media: Which Sells Better? August 28, 2005 |
|
| Hello again.. How are all my fine friends this weekend? Good to see you again. It sure has been a busy week of new product releases. As always! Resale Rights products are quickly gaining in popularity.. roaring ahead like an express train. Next week, we can discuss it more together. Some major new digital products on DVD were also released, so I wrote my thoughts on this subjuect. Here it is... EBooks or Recorded Media: Which Sells Better? By Fred Farah In the Jan 13, 2005 issue of Niche Market Strategies "Welcome to Internet Marketing 2005" I wrote briefly about the popularity of "recorded products" versus ebooks. It's time we discussed it in more detail... yes, it's that important.
Ebooks: What are the advantages of written text over recorded media? 1 - This is the traditional way of delivering information and we're comfortable with it. But with that said, it is a lonely path to walk. It's also a great help, even a necessity be a speed reader. I personally am a slow reader, and it takes me forever to read an ebook. 2 - You can scan through the pages, and be selective of what you want to read and absorb more fully. We are, after all, a generation of skimmers who don't have the time to read all the details in this era information overflow. An audio recording must be listened to in its entirety, and takes much more time. I have found some recordings that have an excessive amount of small-talk. When it takes more than 15 minutes to get to the point, I lose patience and say adios. 3 - Ebooks can be created with graphics and other enhancements that make them more presentable. A product that catches the eye can have quite an advantage, even in ebook format. 4 - Ebooks use much less disk space than an mp3 file, maybe 95% less. Recordings: So what then, are the advantages of Recorded products? Here are some of the formats of recorded information. 1 - Audio that can be listened to online. 2 - Audio .mp3 files you that can download and listen to at home. 3 - Video presentations online, which are usually in Flash mode and can therefore be viewed by both PC and Mac users. 4 - Audio or Video delivered on CD or DVD. These are becoming increasingly more popular. Picture a video on CD that shows in graphic detail "how to". The principle reason video and audio has become wildly popular, is perhaps the feeling of participation you experience, especially when compared to the alone feeling you have when reading ebooks. Have you noticed how many web pages now have short audio messages to explain something new. Your 2 to 8 minute message gets across more effectively just from your personality showing up in the recording. This is so powerful. The feelings a recording gives you is almost as good as attending a live seminar, But instead of paying the thousands of dollars currently being charged, you pay $37 to $197. But make no mistake, live seminars are huge. People want to participate, and yes, even need to! Tele-seminars and Webinars are great examples of events where you can often participate. Just hearing the voices of 2 or 3 guest speakers, and sometimes listeners too, is enough to make you feel that "you belong", now one of us. Webinars are really great, because you can see and hear the guest speakers right on your PC. You are not stuck with a phone on your ear for an hour or more. Of course you save long distance charges as well. When listening to recordings, take my advice and buy a good quality headset. Some online or downloadable free recordings are not of the highest quality, and you'll appreciate what you're listening to more with a headset than with speakers. Speakers are good when more than one person is listening, but this is rare. I gave up my speakers, and now use only a good headset. With a headset, you definitely hear better and can concentrate on the information you're listening to, which means you'll absorb more. One final reason I appreciate recordings. My eyes get tired very fast lately reading my PC screen, due to a temporary eye problem. Listening to recordings at least lets me stay up to date, thank you very much. Give your clients and prospects what they want. You must offer recorded products, whether your own or as an affilate. They are a perfect supplement to the ebooks you sell.
